I used to have a job guarding nuclear weapons in the late seventies, and refining uranium into "bomb-grade" uranium. It was the strangest job I ever had. I had to have a "Q" security clearance. FBI agents knocked on my neighbors doors. FBI agents pulled my classmates out of class to ask them questions about me. When I quit my job a couple of years later I had to sign a security agreement that stated I could be condemned to death for revealing any secrets. Very strange job. Very spooky. During the Three Mile Island episode the government was on TV telling everyone was okay. Meanwhile in my office scientists from everywhere were pouring over Three Mile Island documents trying to figure out what happened. Can you imagine being threatened with the death penalty for quitting a job?

I know the area Keith, Donna, and Brent once lived secretly housed 113 nuclear warheads starting in 1943 through the end of the cold war in the 80's.

No Mafia. I had a job as a security inspector and as a chemical process operator at a nuclear weapons facility. To work there I had to have the highest security clearance available to civilians. To resign I had to fill out paperwork verifying that I was aware that disclosing classified information was treason, and that it was by law punishable by death.

SkyDawg -

You didn't sign anything any different from what any civilian or military service member with a Secret/Q or Y or higher clearance does today.

Lets not get too drama queen - the disclosure statement says that you acknowledge that divulging information is punishable by fine, imprisonment and you may be subject to the death penalty.

Shit - John Walker is still alive so we know the likelihood of a death sentence is pretty low.

I'm taking Sky Dawg's flank on this one, I can't recall anybody with there finger on the button actually be subverted to the will of our enemy's , but speaking from my own experince had I purposely given away the posistion of my tank troop for any reason and was discovered I'm sure I could expect nothing more than a Blind fold and some willing shooters to make haste w/ my traitorous ass. The cigarette part of the scenario is a myth. The radio codes and freq's (not freaks) were the most important item you posess on the battlefield. without them your ass is grass.
At the time I was one of the first to test and field the Abrams tank and evrything was classified, the matrix of the armour still is. When moving posistion of the mobile nukes in Europe I couldn't,wouldn't want to judge my fate had I blown those missons.

Sorry if I sounded like a "drama queen" to you. I was only answering a question put to me.

"To resign I had to fill out paperwork verifying that I was aware that disclosing classified information was treason, and that it was by law punishable by death."

That is answering a question.

"Can you imagine being threatened with the death penalty for quitting a job."

That is drama.
